Cable Plant Technician
Colorado Springs Utilities' Network Enterprise Services team is hiring a Cable Plant Technician to help manage our diverse and growing Information Technology (IT) and Operation Technology (OT) networks that support our electric, natural gas, water, and wastewater operations and services. The work that you do will ensure the security, stability, and integrity of our data center with an emphasis on technical accuracy and compliance with our standards, procedures, and policies.
A day in the life of a Cable Plant Technician may include:
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to monitor and maintain data center infrastructure solutions for two onsite data centers and over sixty communication rooms/sites
Supporting the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of robust inside plant cabling solutions
Implementing data center, inside plant, and wireless networks, including rack and stack, cabling, cooling, and power distribution
Ensuring all data center, inside plant, and network installations comply with industry regulations and best practices
Testing and validating circuits, hardware, and connections for proper configuration and performance, and ensuring all equipment and cabling are installed for network reliability
Diagnosing and resolving issues related to data center and network infrastructure, conduct regular maintenance activities, and implementing preventive measures to minimize downtime
Maintaining detailed documentation of data center, inside plant, and network configurations, installations, and modifications, ensuring accuracy and completeness
Conducting audits and inspections of cabling infrastructure, and identifying components requiring repair or replacement
Planning and scheduling necessary plant maintenance activities
Maintaining cabling and communication room capacity plans and access cable termination documents for each communication room
Planning, coordinating, and scheduling the installation and removal of equipment (i.e., servers, storage, appliances, and network equipment) in the DC
Adopting new network technologies and tools to improve network efficiencies and system operations through lifecycle, continuous improvement, and project initiatives
Supporting inventory management efforts and related processes for the network team
Who You Are
Demonstrated telecommunications experience (e.g., running copper and fiber cabling; IT equipment installation, cabling, and powering)
Knowledge of DC power is valued
Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Computer Networking, or a related field - or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
BICSI certifications in Cabling Installation and/or Outside Plant Design are valued
