Job Description: Amherst College invites applications for the Director of Class and Access Resource Center position. The Director of Class and Access Resource Center is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $71,689 - commensurate with experience. Reporting to the Senior Director of Identity and Cultural Engagement, the Director oversees staffing, budget, day-to-day operations, and programming of the Class & Access Resource Center (CARC) and supports the overall mission of the Office of Identity and Cultural Resources and the Office of Student Affairs division. The center serves as an important resource to the campus community in building and supporting identity development and community engagement. The Director works in collaboration with the Office of Identity & Cultural Resources (OICR) — Queer Resource Center, Center for International Student Engagement, Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, and the Women’s & Gender Center, Multicultural Resource Center, as well as with other campus partners including the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Dean of the Faculty, Alumni & Parent Programs, Advancement, etc., through educational, social, and cultural programming that centers and affirms the various communities the Center serves. The Director upholds the mission of the CARC to provide education, support, and advocacy to and on behalf of first-generation, low-income, transfer, and military veteran students. Through programmatic initiatives, resources, and services, the Director fosters personal, social, and academic success for these student populations, and provides space for students to explore social class identities with an intersectional lens. In addition, the Director serves as an advising resource for college access (Questbridge, etc.) and affinity-based groups. The Director actively supports a diverse workforce and contributes to the College’s initiatives to foster a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. This role requires flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends as needed. The Director is required to work in person, occasional late nights, and weekends as needed. Internal-External Interaction/Communication: The Director frequently interacts/communicates with members of the Student Affairs administrative team, directors of offices reporting to the Senior Director and Cultural Engagement, Dean of Students and Chief Student Affairs Officer. The Director also conducts complex operational interactions/communications including analyzing, developing, negotiating, and problem solving inside and outside the College. Decision Making: Determines how to carry out job responsibilities; makes operational decisions following established guidelines/procedures/policies; participates in a collaborative approach making recommendations to management to establish guidelines/procedures/policies. Summary of Duties and Responsibilities Management, Operations, & Supervision: Manages the day-to-day operations of the Class & Access Resource Center. Hires, on-boards, and supervises student staff. Assists with hiring, onboarding, and supervising professional staff within OICR. Serves as a core member of the Office of Identity & Cultural Resources Leadership Team. Engages in strategic planning and assessment for the Class & Access Resource Center. Collects, analyzes data, and prepares annual reports. Oversees budget planning and monitors expenditures. Continuously evaluates operational efficiencies and identifies opportunities to streamline processes. Assesses resource allocations and makes recommendations for necessary support systems. Oversees and assists OICR professional staff in managing communications efforts through the website, social media, newsletters, and other channels. Programs & Initiatives: Develops academic and co-curricular educational programming within the center and in partnership with other campus organizations, to build community, provide education, and create skills-building opportunities to synthesize social, academic, personal, political, and career development-related learning and maximize the Amherst experience. Designs and leads campus programs, workshops, and training sessions that align with the mission of the center. Co-creates and implements leadership programs and collaborates with divisional and institutional stakeholders. Participates in cross-departmental initiatives focused on identity, social class, and community building. Encourages involvement from faculty, staff, alumni, and community members through intellectual, social, and cultural programming. Supports the promotion and integration of engagement, mentorship, and leadership programs in partnership with campus stakeholders. Plans and executes initiatives that foster cultural awareness across the campus community. Collaborates at both divisional and institutional levels to develop multicultural programming, workshops, and training that advance intersectional and interdisciplinary commitments to inclusive excellence. Develops and coordinates initiatives, programs, and support services to support first-generation, low-income, and non-traditional student populations (transfers and veterans) transition to Amherst College. Collaborates with campus partners including but not limited to cultural resource centers, academic centers (writing and quantitative), Loeb Center, Financial Aid, Counseling, and Admissions to coordinate workshops and programs to help students who are part of these communities access and maximize the Amherst experience. Collaborates with New Student and Family Programs to execute Transfer Student Orientation programs (Fall/Spring). Collaborates with the program director of the Meiklejohn Fellows Program to provide resources and support services for first-generation and low-income students. Collaborates with Admissions to support the recruitment and retention of transfer students. Implements, in collaboration with campus partners, policies directly connected to supporting first-generation, low-income, transfer, and veteran students. Develops assessment protocols to evaluate social and resource-based programs. As a member of the Office of Identity and Cultural Resources, collaborates to co-create, develop, assess, and implement programs, resources, and services that highlight the intersections of identity and community. Collaboration: Serves as a resource and collaborates with campus offices and Five College campus. Participates in campus-wide committees and working groups as needed. Engages with diverse academic, administrative, and off-campus stakeholders to support the mission of the Class & Access Resource Center (CARC) as well as broader diversity and inclusion efforts. Collaborates with Case Management, Counseling, and other partners to ensure comprehensive support for students. Qualifications Required: Master's Degree 3-5 years of related experience 4-5 years of progressive experience working with diverse student populations, including BIPOC, first-generation, low-income, and non-traditional students in higher education and student affairs. Proven experience in cross-cultural program development and implementation, advising, and/or student services. Experience in designing, delivering, and evaluating student programs, with a focus on leadership development. Demonstrated strong project management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Extensive experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation. Strong leadership abilities. Proficient in cross-cultural awareness and competence, with effective verbal and written communication skills. Successful completion of required reference and background checks (including CORI).
