Job Description
The University of Southern California is seeking applicants for multiple resource employee positions as piano Dance Accompanists for the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. Under minimal supervision from the Music Director, they will provide piano accompaniment and musical guidance for ballet classes. Piano proficiency and ballet or other dance accompaniment experience are required.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Play piano for ballet classes, including appropriate material for various combinations therein (i.e. plis, tendus, etc.);
- Be flexible with tempi and duration of combinations based on in-the-moment verbal instruction from faculty;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
- Knowledge of/ability to learn ballet terminology (required);
- Ability to sight-read provided music (rarely) and improvise in various styles as needed (preferred);
- Have ready multiple genres of music (e.g. classical, pop, musical theatre, opera, or others) which can be adapted for the ballet class (preferred);
- Ability to maintain a positive disposition and cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, and staff (required).
Resource Employees are not eligible to receive benefits except for the exception basic disability and worker's compensation, and sick time accrual. The hourly rate for this position is expected to be $45 - $50. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Associate in Arts (Music) degree, or similar.
Experience
- One (1) year of experience playing piano for ballet classes at the collegiate, professional or pre-professional level;
- Experience and/or education of the same kind, level or amount as required for minimum education may be substituted for the above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor of Music degree.
Experience
- Three (3) years of experience playing piano for ballet classes at the collegiate, professional or pre-professional level;
- Experience and/or education of the same kind, level or amount as required for preferred education may be substituted for the above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
