Join the St. Michael's Home for Children program of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston team as it is seeking an Education Specialist! The Education Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all children in care are provided with educational services by assisting the teaching staff in the classroom and/or provide direct supervision to students including tutoring. The successful candidate will be available to possibly co-teach as instructed by classroom teacher or educational service coordinator. Facilitate, coordinate, and assist with school calendar, schedule, holidays, and special events. Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly. Provide feedback and information to the department team through supervisor for service planning.

  • You have a Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • You have a valid Texas driver's license and car insurance

What you Deliver
  • You support educational services provided to children in care by assisting the classroom teacher/Educational Coordinator in giving feedback, developing, and implementing daily lesson plans. Planning for educational activities/lessons during holidays or afterschool time including but not limited to, tutoring, lesson plan or field trips. Administer initial educational assessment, track ISP and educational progress, provide feedback to the department team, completed enrollment forms, updated educational report on a weekly basis, and prepare educational discharge documentation. Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of all educational related information into UC Portal and client file.
  • You assist the teacher with ongoing behavioral concerns that arise in the classroom and documents behavior of clients. As required by policies and procedures, reports SIRs, IRs, and/or redirections. Ensure that shelter staff are aware of concerns in the classroom.
  • You assist the educational coordinator in planning educational recreational activities for children in care, including transportation and supervision of the children participating in activities.
  • You work closely with treatment team to meet the various educational needs of the residents, including daily consultation and weekly staff meetings. Participate in all mandatory meetings, trainings, and departmental meetings as needed.
  • You collaborate with the morning shift to ensure the safety and well-being of the children in care. Provide School Orientation (Class schedule, cafeteria, restrooms, Gym, etc) and complete documentation, records, statistics, periodical evaluations for the students as required. Available to co-teach or teach when necessary. Support students with Individual Education Plan (IEP) for lower performing students and/or safety plans.
  • You will, as needed, during emergencies, crisis, urgent situations or as a program necessity, assist as Youth Care Worker to maintain ratio.
  • You will perform other duties as required, such as participating in staff retreats, United Way tours, agency and community fairs and speaking engagements, assisting with special organizational projects/events, in order to promote agency programs.

This is a full-time position with a schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and a 24/7 operational environment. Flexibility in working hours and a commitment to being available during non-traditional hours is essential for this role.
