Salary: $15.38 Calendar: 254 PURPOSE Performs semi-skilled maintenance and service work on school grounds, equipment and machinery, and irrigation systems: performs related work as required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform maintenance, repair, inspection, and service work on District school grounds, including equipment, machinery, irrigation systems. Duties include mowing and fertilizing grounds, snow removal, maintenance and repair of water lines and valves, irrigation and sprinkler systems, and playground and athletic equipment. An employee in this class may be assigned to other maintenance duties in the District. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. The primary duties of this class are performed outdoors and may include working in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment and hazardous chemicals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and application of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers;
- Performs snow removal from sidewalks, walkways, parking lots, and other area:
- Assists with scheduled maintenance, repair, and installation work on irrigation systems:
- Performs painting and graffiti removal duties;
- Prepares and maintains gardens, trees and shrubs, playground playing surfaces,, and other planting areas;
- Performs light maintenance on motorized and mechanized maintenance and grounds keeping, equipment, including light welding;
- Purchase required materials using District purchase order forms;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety policies.
Other Duties and Responsibilities - Sets up, assists at, and breaks down special events;
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Methods, materials, tools and standard practices regarding grounds maintenance, construction, maintenance, and repair;
- Methods, materials, tools and standard practices regarding grounds maintenance, lawn care, cultivation of grass, trees, and flowers, and snow removal;
- Federal (OSHA) regulations and District policies regarding safe work practices relating to use of power tools, heavy equipment, and hazardous chemicals.
- Follow written and oral instructions and observe department policies and procedures;
- Operate power equipment, including but not limited to, grounds keeping equipment mowers, tractors, trenching equipment, backhoe and tractor, and related equipment;
- Operate hand tools;
- Operate a motor vehicle, including a dump truck and pickup truck;
- Prepare written reports, including work orders, maintenance logs, equipment, and field conditions;
- Communicate effectively with the public and other employees;
QUALIFICATIONS - High School diploma or GED equivalency; and
- One (1) year grounds keeping experience preferred: or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Valid Idaho driver's license required and CDL endorsement preferred.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES - Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, use a telephone, and communicate with other employees and the public;
- Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review and prepare documents and file them in a prescribed order, and organize documents and materials;
- Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a motor vehicle, heavy equipment, and a variety of power and hand tools and to make adjustments to equipment;
- Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work at a keyboard for an extended period of time, move up to 50 pounds and work in an office environment and perform standard office functions.
